Elkhorn Tornado
Throughout the afternoon hours of April 26, 2024, a large, violent, and destructive tornado impacted parts of the communities of Waterloo, Elkhorn, Bennington, and Blair, Nebraska, injuring four people. The National Weather Service in Omaha assigned a rating of low-end EF4, with maximum wind speeds estimated at 170 mph. This tornado was the first violent tornado of the 2024 season and the first of two EF4 tornadoes during April. Not even an hour after the tornado had passed through Elkhorn, I was in Ramblewood, the most affected neighborhood. The neighborhood was blocked off to news channels and most everyone, but I managed to get in, making myself the first person to have high-quality photos of the damage while the storm and danger was still present.
